Video: Life Care Plan Helps Secure $24 million settlement in Spinal Cord Injury Case

Occupational Assessment Services, Inc. (OAS) has recently published an informative video on how a  Life Care Plan  we prepared helped achieve a verdict of $24 million in a spinal cord injury case.

In this case, a 21-year-old college graduate trained in personnel management and employed by an insurance company was hit by a moving van while riding his motorcycle. Left with a fractured back, he suffered paralysis in the lower extremities, incontinence, and severe pain in the upper back.

In a clear and easy-to-comprehend chart format, OAS prepared a comprehensive Life Care Plan detailing the costs the injured party would incur over his lifetime, including:

1. Vocational & Employability Evaluation
2. Assessment of Pain and Incontinence
3. Examination of Psychological Adjustment

The pain of his severe injuries prevented the client from sitting for more than three hours before lying down—effectively rendering him unemployable.

Going to Trial

When the case went to trial, OAS testified—educating the jury as to the type and cost of services that the injured party would require over his lifetime. The jury was able to comprehend the cost of these services—and ultimately reached a verdict of $24 million dollars on the client’s behalf.
